What a website diagnostic actually covers

A diagnostic is not a redesign proposal with a different name. It is a structured read of a site you already have, and its value is in what it tells you not to change.

Structure, before appearance

The first pass is not visual. It asks what pages exist, what each one is for, and whether a visitor can get from an entry point to the thing they came for. Most sites that feel wrong are wrong at this level, and no amount of restyling repairs it.

Content, read as a visitor

Every page is read as a stranger would read it: is it clear what is being offered, to whom, and what happens next. Pages that exist because they always have are identified as such.

The technical floor

Performance, mobile behaviour, keyboard access, contrast, form handling and whether analytics is actually recording. These are measured, not estimated.

What the report contains

A written account of what was found, a prioritised list of what to change, and — deliberately — a list of what to leave alone. A diagnostic that recommends replacing everything is a sales document, not a diagnostic.

Next step

Start with a conversation.

A consultation is a scoped conversation about what you need, not a sales call. You will leave it knowing whether this is the right practice for the work.
